She Was Actually SHOUTING At Me!
ByAn absolutely surreal thing happened to me this past Friday
morning while I was out shopping with my 3 year old son.
We had been over at the local Safeway taking advantage of
the beautiful sun shiny weather to pick up some blueberries
for our pancakes that my beautiful honey was going to
make for us.
So as we were walking over to our car to leave the store and
head back home I noticed a rather large truck parked right
next to us leaving a less than a desirable amount. of room to
place my son in the backseat and lock him in.
As I arrive to my car and open up the driver’s side door I
lightly rested it against the trucks’ oversized mirror since
I needed the room.
The next thing I hear is what had to have been a 60 year old
woman literally shouting at me that I hit her mirror!
Hahaha.. it was crazy!
I responded by simply telling that no I didn’t. I was very
deliberate and careful so as to not damage her vehicle or
mine.
Well… let’s just say that this explanation wouldn’t suffice
because this woman’s reaction was totally out of hand for
the situation.
She continued to shout at me that yes I did as I was loading
my son into the car to the point where I literally had to tell
her
“That’s enough now. Be quiet” in a stern voice.
What’s crazy about this is that the reaction I had was totally
involuntary and stemmed more from me being a father to a
rambunctious 3 year old and an active 3 month old than
anything else.
What was even funnier is that she actually did quiet down
immediately afterward.
Hahahaha!!! Even thinking about it now brings me a small
chuckle.

So you might be thinking to yourself “Why is John telling
me this story and what in the heck does it have to do with
marketing?”
The first reason this is important… (and if you are reading
this sentence right now my point is proven) is that stories
sell.. and teach.
This is a universal truth.
Let’s take for example the the purpose of a particular type of
communication that you are engaged in is to sell a product,
recruit a new distributor, or in some way, shape, or form,
influence someone then what better way of grabbing their
attention is there but to tell a story?
We are all trained from little children to sit quietly and pay
attention when someone is telling a story.
This entrainment doesn’t leave us when we become an adult.
Don’t believe me? The next time you are listening to or
reading a story that you are interested in take a minute to
notice how quiet you are and how intently you are waiting
for the next part of the plot to unfold.
By learning how to control and develop this ability it allows
us to absolutely supercharge our email marketing.
We will go into the next reason this particular story was
important in my next email.
In it I am going to give you one of the most powerful
lessons in understanding WHY I told you about this
particular story.

p.s.
I truthfully don’t know why that woman was so mad
and maybe she is going through a trying time in life
right now…
Do me a favor and either pray for her or maybe simply
just send her some mental goodwill..
