child laughter 300x199 That Which Does Not Serve YouHow does one become happy? For that matter you can ask how does one become unhappy? I believe that happiness is a learned response which can be shaped and molded to suit our own individual needs.

I was just reviewing some training given by industry expert Jim Britt where he breaks down several steps to go about the happiness development process. He states that in order to learn to be happy you must first take the steps to let go that which does not serve you.

To let go of these things it requires four things:

1. The intention to let go
2.  The willingness to let go
3. The commitment to let go
4. It requires the ability for self observation. This ability may be the most important in my estimation.

In Self Observation there are 4 areas that we must pay heed to:

A) Observe your Thought Process: In life there are so many opportunities to get caught up in the moment and let our passions get the better of us.

For example: You wake up one morning still sleepy from lack of true rest and on your way to brush your teeth you slam your toe up against the side of the bed. Now after that excruciating pain has passed you have the opportunity to decide right then and there if you are going to let this one incident affect the rest of your day.

Some folks will allow this to color their attitude in a negative light and for the rest of the day everything will just go bad while others understand that external forces do not affect what is most important: our mindset.

B)  Observe your Language: The language that we use day in and day out may be the most powerful hypnosis in the world. Our internal dialogue is the most important conversation we have in life.  We must always be aware of what it is that we are telling ourselves because we believe what it is that we repeatedly hear.

C)  Observe your Belief Systems: One of the things to keep in mind about beliefs is that what they are in their purest form are merely opinions that we have formed over time in response to a particular set of circumstances.

This is a very exciting concept to wrap your head around because this means that if this assertion is true then all we have to do is provide the proper environment to cultivate whichever beliefs we set our minds to.

If you’re beliefs do not serve you then you have the power to erase them and cultivate new ones which do. Develop a habit of questioning with a critical eye anything that you hold to be true which isn’t in your best interest. When you do this you will find that either you were right about this belief and now you must do something about it or you were wrong about it and you can let it go.

D) Observe your Behaviors: If you have set it upon yourself to believe a certain way then it is up to you to behave in the fashion that would best support this belief.

Do you believe yourself to a master networker? Then ask yourself; Am I taking the actions a master networker would? Do you believe yourself to be full of energy and in shape? Well, are you conducting yourself the way someone who is already manifesting these physical traits would?

If not, then great! You have the chance to make a course correction. If so, then fantastic! Keep doing more of the same.

The bottom line here my friends is that our beliefs, our reality, and our lives are what we choose to make of them. We have the blessing of free will and it is up to each of us to exercise it according to the manner that we would like to be compensated in life.

This compensation that I speak of is more than just monetary. It is freedom of time, of worry, freedom of spirit.  It is in knowing that no matter what happens in the economy you and your family have come to the point in your lives that everything is going to be ok because you chose to put your nose to the grindstone and work hard.

You worked hard for several years and built up your value in the marketplace. You learned new skills, created new opportunities, and most of all you leveraged your time and efforts by creating a team of partners who were just as committed to making things happen for their families as you were for yours.

In fact, instead of lying down and waiting for something to happen you realized that this was your moment to seize the Unprecedented Opportunity which presented itself and change your family’s circumstances for ever.

Remember my friends that just as we are masters of our own beliefs, so are we are masters of our own destiny.

Which will you decide to live in? The land of prosperity or the country of lack?

Great post John,

This definitely relates to the “Overcoming Negative Body Obsession” series that I’ve been writing about. One of the steps in releasing it from you body is recognizing that you are having negative thoughts in the first place. It’s amazing how our minds just wander sometimes and we don’t realize we are even thinking negativity!

However, we do have a choice! The choice to be happy or unhappy. I know which one I’m going to pick!

Thanks for sharing!

Shaylee,
One of the key things that you said in your response was: However, we do have a choice! The choice to be happy or unhappy. This is so incredibly powerful. We choose every day what type of day we are going to experience. Obviously there are external factors beyond our control but what isn’t beyond our control is how we respond to them.

If we commit to ourselves that no matter what today is going to be a success then there is no way that it could not be even if that success is a relatively small one.

Keep rockin,
J

John,
Awesome post about aligning yourself with your goals. The work of any dream begins within. All that we need is there, inside of us. There may be times when outside support is encouraged and welcomed to assist you in certain areas. But in the long run, our attitude and mindset decide our journey!
Val :)
